Pain due to arthritis at the base of the thumb is common. Fortunately it usually improves with medication and splinting, but some do not.
In conjunction with Peninsula Hand Therapy and Dr Tricia Terrill, a local plastic surgeon, MP Sports Physicians is conducting a pilot trial using PRP injections plus splinting to manage these thumbs.
We are still recruiting.
There is no funding for this trial, so potential patients do need to pay for the treatment.
If our early signs of success continue, we will progress to a blinded controlled trial.
