Dr Prasanna Gamage
Sports Physician Specialist
Dr Prasanna Gamage is a Sport and Exercise Medicine Specialist with the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians (ACSEP). He is dedicated to patient care in managing sports-related injuries, injury rehabilitation and prevention, and non-surgical management of musculoskeletal conditions in both athletic and non-athletic populations.
Clinical Interests:
- Diagnosing and managing acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries and conditions
- Non-surgical management of acute sports injuries
- Cricket related injuries: management and prevention.
- Interventional musculoskeletal treatments
- Ultrasound guided musculoskeletal injection therapies

Qualifications:
- MBBS (University of Colombo, Sri Lanka)
- MSc in Sports and Exercise Science/Nutrition (University of Stirling, UK)
- IOC Diploma in Sports Medicine (International Olympic Committee)
- PhD in Sports Medicine (Federation University Australia -Australian Postgraduate Award scholarship). PhD thesis: injury prevention in cricket with focus on musculoskeletal injuries and exertional heat illnesses

- Field of play doctor for men’s basketball at the Rio Olympic Games (2016)
- Team doctor for Frankston Dolphins Football Team (VFL) from 2020-2021
- Team doctor: Cricket Australia National Deaf Men’s Cricket Team for T20 World Championship in Dubai (Oct 2022)
- Match day doctor for Cricket WBBL and Second XI cricket for 2022/2023 season
- Medical support for FINA Swimming World Championship (25m), Melbourne; Dec 2022.
- In addition, Prasanna has worked with variety of sports teams/event medical coverage including NRL, rugby league, soccer, volleyball and cricket.
