VISCO  SUPPLEMENTATION INJECTIONS FOR JOINT ARTHRITIS

Synvisc, Monovisc, Durolane and Eufflexxa are all versions of hyaluronans which are a synthetic form of the natural fluid within the knee joint.

They are produced by different companies and have different chemical compositions, so your doctor may recommend one above the others.

Hyaluronans help to lubricate the knee and keep the cartilage healthy.  In a knee with arthritis, the knee fluid composition changes and does not protect the knee properly.

The theory is that an injection of hyaluronan can help to change the ingredients of the knee fluid to be in a more healthy balance.

These injections have been found to be safe and to have quite good effects on pain, particularly in earlier stages of arthritis. Some people may see improvement for 12 months or beyond.
