Iron Infusions.
MP Sports Physicians is now offering WADA compliant Iron Infusions
If you are an elite athlete and have been recommended to have an iron infusion, we now offer low volume WADA compliant infusions. Of course, these are available to all of our patients if required.
Athletes subject to drug testing under the WADA code are restricted in the amount of fluid that can be administered intravenously. Anything over 100 ml requires a TUE and approval. At MP Sports Physicians, we perform all our infusions with a maximum of 100 mL fluid, to ensure you are complying with anti-doping rules.
What is an iron infusion?
This is a procedure where a solution containing iron is administered into your blood via an intravenous (IV) catheter.
Why might I need an IV iron infusion?
Most people will try dietary adjustments or tablets to replenish their iron stores. For some, however, gut side effects are problematic. Others simply can’t absorb enough iron via this method.
You may require an IV iron infusion if your deficiency is severe and you have developed anaemia, if you are unable to take iron tablets or if they are ineffective. These symptoms can be worse if you have another illness or recent blood loss complicating the situation.

- Contact the clinic to arrange an appointment.
- Carefully read the information sheet we provide you.
- Purchase your iron from the pharmacy and bring it with you on the day.
- Sign your consent form with the doctor on the day.
- Make sure you have a driver with you on the day of your infusion.
